family and friends gathering for a holiday meal

The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes festive family gatherings, gut-busting feasts, and tons of photo ops for your social media feed. Whether you're hitting up jolly holiday parties, snacking on seasonal sweets, or vacationing this holiday season, here are some tips for sticking to your Invisalign plan like a champ.

1. Wear Your Aligners As Recommended

It's important to wear your Invisalign aligners as much as possible, generally 20–22 hours each day. This gives you plenty of time to enjoy the festivities and clean your aligners. Failing to wear your aligners as your dentist recommends can lead to discomfort and frustration down the road, especially if it derails your treatment timeline.

2. Brush Your Teeth After Every Meal

Most people know brushing your teeth twice daily is essential for good dental hygiene. However, when wearing invisible braces like Invisalign, you must brush after every meal to prevent food and plaque from sticking to the aligners. Consider carrying a travel toothbrush and toothpaste, so it's easy to use while you're out and about with family and friends. We also recommend using mouthwash to help flush away bacterial growth and food particles.

3. Always Carry Your Storage Case with You

Invisalign aligners come with a storage case that you should always keep with you. You'll need a safe place to store your aligners when you're not wearing them, perhaps while eating or enjoying hot cocoa. People commonly and mistakenly place their aligners on a napkin and forget where they are, or they get accidentally thrown away in the garbage. Safely storing your aligners will prevent treatment hiccups and keep your smile on track.

4. Beware of Hot Foods and Drinks

Drinking hot liquids or consuming hot foods while wearing your Invisalign aligners can damage them. The heat can warp the aligners' shape or break them, resulting in the need for replacement aligners and prolonging your treatment. Ill-fitting aligners can also be uncomfortable, so do your best to prevent this from occurring. Another problem with consuming certain liquids like coffee or hot apple cider is that these beverages can stain the aligners. So, this holiday season, watch what you drink to keep your aligners clear and clean!
